Research Focus

C ITI's work as a Sloan center focuses on the telecommunications industry's networks, competitors, suppliers, customers, and work force; its business, technological, and political dynamics; its media content and e-commerce transactions; and its impact on society. Three interrelated themes, each consisting of several projects, are central to ongoing work:

  I. The expansion of network firms
  II. Changing industry models
III. The impact of the Internet on telecommunications

The new center utilizes CITI's existing electronic platform to develop collaborative relationships. The Virtual Institute of Information, has become a well-traveled portal to research and information for the entire telecommunications community, academia, and the general public. It includes an extensive collection of research papers, reports and government studies, as well as links to other organizations in the field.

The Institute's research is supported by its affiliates, a group of firms and foundations from over fourteen countries on three continents. This broadly-based support ensures the Institute's independence. Contributions do not entitle affiliates to influence the choice of topics, selection of researchers, conclusions, or publications.
