Peer-to-Peer Video as a Mass Medium:
Business, Technology, Community, & Law
This
conference will analyze the exciting new medium, Peer-to-peer Video.
The positive and negative impacts of P2P on copyright holders and end
users will be discussed. Service providers will present case studies on
the economic viability of P2P. Research on P2P’s ability to increase
demand for broadband will be expounded. The following four questions
will also be addressed:
1) What liability do communication
carriers have in regards to P2P material shared on their networks?
2) How would a compulsory licensing
system work for the file sharing of copyrighted video and if
implemented how would it affect the pricing of video content outside of
the Internet?
3) How does the interactive element of
the P2P transaction affect content?
4) How do people interact with each
other in the P2P community?
Finally, conclusions on the
development and enforcement of P2P legal restrictions internationally
will be presented.
