Mischa Schwartz joined the Electrical Engineering faculty in 1974. He is the author and co-author of eight books in communication systems, computer and telecommunications networks, and signal processing. His current research focuses on lightwave networks of the future, fault management, and access/flow control in broadband integrated networks. He is a Fellow and former Director of the IEEE, past President of the IEEE Communications Society, and past Chairman of the IEEE Group on Information Theory. He was the 1983 recipient of the IEEE Education Medal and received the Cooper Union Gano Dunn Award in 1986 for outstanding achievement in Science and Technology.
